Lift Cylinder, Rear

Begin the replacement of the rear compartment lid strut for Coupe or Sedan models by opening and supporting the lid then setting up additional support to protect yourself and your vehicle. Apply gentle force only against the lifted ends of the liftgate/hood assist rod to prevent it from bending. Insert a small flat blade tool to unsnap the rear compartment rod clips from both the bottom and top positioning ball studs. Take out the assist rod from the rear compartment space. Put the rear compartment lid assist rod onto its upper ball stud first and then onto its lower ball stud. Push the assist rod entirely into the back compartment before returning the lid panel.

Before replacing the rear compartment lid strut in Coupes and Sedans you need to support the lid open while using alternate support to prevent injuries or damage. Focus your hand movement on the end areas of the liftgate/hood assist rod when removing or placing it to prevent harmful bending. Your small flat blade will unclick the retaining clip from both lower and upper assist rod ball studs simultaneously. disconnect the rear compartment lid assist rod from your vehicle. Position the rear compartment lid assist rod first against the upper ball stud and then onto the lower one. Place both clips on the rear compartment assist rod completely before putting the compartment shut.

Use a small flat bladed tool to release the clip from the lower assist rod ball stud, then do the same for the upper assist rod ball stud.

Apply pressure only at the ends of the liftgate/hood assist rod to avoid bending.
