2005 Cadillac STS Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the coolant reservoir, specifically for surge tank replacement on 2005 Cadillac STS?
A: Service work on the coolant reservoir needs you to drain the coolant as your first step before replacing the surge tank. Press the master cylinder fluid level sensor electrical connector to one side as you work on it. Remove the surge tank outlet hose clamp through the Hose Clamp Pliers (J38185) before moving the clamp to a new position to detach the outlet hose. Service technicians need to use Hose Clamp Pliers (J38185) to disconnect and reposition the surge tank inlet hose clamp before disconnecting the surge tank inlet hose. First remove the surge tank nut and bolt before disconnecting the electrical connector to the low coolant sensor to extract the surge tank. Start by reinstalling the surge tank where it belongs and reconnect the low coolant sensor electrical connector. Tighten the surge tank nut to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.) before you tighten the surge tank bolt to the exact same specification. You should apply clean coolant onto the inside of the hoses before attachment. Connect the surge tank inlet hose to its compartment while using Hose Clamp Pliers (J38185) to reset and secure the hose clamp position. After securing the surge tank outlet hose with Hose Clamp Pliers (J38185) once more, continue with installation. Reconnect the master cylinder fluid level sensor electrical connector before you begin filling the cooling system.
