  • Q: How to replace the rear (jounce) brake line on 2005 Chevrolet Astro?
    A: To change the rear (jounce) brake hose lifting and suport the vehicle, clean all dirt and foreign matter from the brake hose and brake pipe fitting. Put rubber cap or plug on the ends of the exposed brake pipe fitting to avoid losing brake fluid and metal bromide contamination. Unscrew the brake pipe fitting from the brake hose with the help of a back up wrench, then cap or plug the end of the brake pipe fitting. Dislodge the brake hose retaining clip from the hose mounting bracket and disconnect the jounce hose from the bracket while plugging the ends of brake pipe fitting exposed. Remove the 2 rear brake pipes from the jounce hose on rear axle, and cap or plug the brake pipe fitting ends. Remove the jounce hose retaining bolt from the axle and pull the brake hose off the vehicle. For install, the rear brake hose should be installed first, then the bolt for the jounce hose retaining bolt will be installed on the axle as per 17 Nm (150 inch lbs.). Put off the caps or plugs on the rear brake pipe, connect the pipes on the axle's jounce hose and tighten it 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) holding the hose with the pipe so that it wouldn't wind around any suspension part. Again with the vehicle's weight on the suspension, you install the brake hose into the bracket and hold it in place using the jounce hose retaining clip . Remove the rubber cap or plug at the end of the exposed brake pipe fitting and attach the brake pipe fitting to the brake hose using a back up wrench on the hose fitting not bending the bracket or the pipe and tighten it to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). Ensure that the hose does not touch any component of the suspension; otherwise, take off the hose and fix the condition. Finally, bleed the hydraulic brake system and drop the vehicle.
