2005 Chevrolet Blazer Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the harmonic balancer on 2005 Chevrolet Blazer?
A: Begin the Crankshaft balancer replacement process by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable followed by removing the Fan Shroud assembly with Drive Belt. Crankshaft damage prevention requires using a shorter bolt inside the Crankshaft before handling the Crankshaft balancer bolt and washer. You must then take off both bolts and pulley from the Crankshaft. Use balancer remover and installer (J 23523-F) by installing its plate and bolts onto the balancer then apply 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) torque to bolts before using the forcing screw to remove it by clockwise rotation. The cleaning and damage inspection process for the Crankshaft balancer should be followed by applying small amounts of grease to the Crankshaft front cover oil seal surface when reusing the seal while ensuring the front groove pin stays in place. Use adhesive gm p/n 12346141 (Canadian P/N 10953433) on the Crankshaft balancer keyway that you should align with the Crankshaft key before pressing the balancer onto the Crankshaft shaft using the j 23523-f. Afterwards you must place the j 23523-f plate with its bolts and tighten them to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) before adding the screw alongside the bearing and washer and rotating the nut clockwise to ensure the balancer hub fits correctly against the Crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring. Put the j 23523-f aside then set up the Crankshaft Pulley with bolts at 58 nm torque (43 ft. Lbs. Torque). Afterward set up the Crankshaft balancer using bolts maintaining 95 nm torque (70 ft. Lbs. Torque) and verify the washer crown points outward from the engine aspect. Put the Drive Belt into place after installation of the Fan Shroud assembly and negative Battery Cable reconnection.
