2005 Chevrolet Cobalt Hood Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Release Hood Cable on 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: The first step to replace the Hood Cable involves lifting the hood and taking the latch off its cable while keeping track of the hood cable path through the engine area. Secure a 2 m (7 ft) length of wire to the latch end of the cable. First remove the left front carpet retainer inside the vehicle then extract the handle from the hood latch handle bracket by using two small flat-bladed tools to release the retainer clip and pull the handle backward. The pliers should be used to extract the hood release lever handle by placing one end over the tab situated near the bracket base and the other end on its rear side before squeezing the pliers while inserting a flat-bladed tool into the slot. Insert a flat-bladed tool into the front dashboard grommet while pulling the hood cable into place. The feeder wire should be taped to the new cable's end to pull the cable through the cowl grommet into the engine compartment. Pass the hood primary latch release cable through the hole in the instrument panel before removing the feeder wire from the cable and connecting the assembly to its bracket. Begin by reinstalling the front carpet retainer then connect the hood release cable to the latch after which test the hood cable operation and finally close the hood when finished.
