2005 Chevrolet Colorado Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the 4WD Actuator on the Transfer Case on 2005 Chevrolet Colorado?
A: First raise the vehicle before you begin replacing the encoder motor of your Transfer Case. The encoder motor receives removal of its electrical connector and vent hose. Remove the mounting bolts from the encoder motor then extract the motor and O-ring seal from the transfer case and discard the O-ring seal. Make sure to rotate the actuator shaft in the transfer case into its neutral position but never use the new encoder motor for this maneuver. The new O-ring requires a thin layer of clean transfer case fluid before insertion into the transfer case. Place the encoder motor flat against the transfer case before you align the actuator shaft position. Assemble the encoder motor mounting bolts along with the heated oxygen sensor bracket then tighten each bolt to 22 Nm (16 ft. lbs.). Before lowering the vehicle reconnect the encoder motor's vent hose and electrical connector.
