2005 Chevrolet Colorado Fuel Rail Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the fuel rail assembly on 2005 Chevrolet Colorado?
A: One must relieve the fuel system pressure as the first step before Fuel Rail assembly replacement. Sever the connections of fuel return hose/pipe and fuel feed hose/pipe from the Fuel Rail using metal assembly fittings called quick connect fitting services. Free the air cleaner resonator from the atmospheric vent hose as well as the Fuel Pressure Regulator. The evap purge hose needs to be disconnected from its attachment points at the throttle control module and the evap canister purge solenoid valve by using the plastic collar method. The procedure starts with removing the intake manifold and following up by disconnecting the Fuel Injector harness connector from the engine wiring harness electrical connector. You must clean the Fuel Rail assembly along with the Cylinder Head using gm x-30a or equivalent engine spray cleaner but the Fuel Rail must not be fully immersed in liquid cleaning solvents. The technician should first remove the Fuel Rail bolts before extracting the Fuel Rail from the Cylinder Head while protecting both injector electrical connector terminals and spray tips from damage. The fittings need to receive caps while holes must be plugged to stop potential contamination. Discard the used Fuel Injector lower o-ring seals during each Fuel Injector removal process. Proceed to the installation if the Fuel Rail will not be replaced. The disassembly process requires removal of fuel injectors together with Fuel Pressure Regulator and Fuel Injector harness from the Fuel Rail. The Fuel Rail installation process begins with connecting the Fuel Injector harness then adds the Fuel Pressure Regulator and the fuel injectors. The new lower Fuel Injector O-Ring seals require application of gm p/n 9981704 mineral oil for light lubrication before positioning them on each Fuel Injector spray tip. Place the Fuel Rail next to the Cylinder Head with the Fuel Injector spray tips fully inserted before securing the Fuel Rail bolts to 10 n.m (89 lb in). The intake manifold and the engine wiring harness electrical connector require reinstallation after connecting the Fuel Injector harness connector to the engine wiring harness electrical connector. The evap purge hose needs attachment to the throttle control module while also connecting to the evap canister purge solenoid valve. After that connect the atmospheric vent hose to the air cleaner resonator and the Fuel Pressure Regulator. Perform a leak test by turning on the ignition when the engine is off for 2 seconds then off for 10 seconds followed by a final 2-second ignition on period while inspecting for fuel leakages.
