2005 Chevrolet Tahoe Steering Angle Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Steering Angle Sensor or Steering Shaft Lower Bearing on 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe?
A: A replacement of the Steering Angle Sensor or steering shaft lower bearing requires first disabling sir functionality. The Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) enables access through the access hole in the lower trim cover to lock the Steering Column. Steering Column installation must wait until the column reaches the lock position and both front wheels face forward. This prevents damage to the sir coil assembly while working on the intermediate shaft or Steering Column. First separate the vehicle's Steering Column. When using the sensor a second time always install the pin before extracting it from the bearing adapter to its nearly-off position from the steering shaft. Eliminate the pin only when re-installing the sensor. To remove the sensor permanently pull it forward directly off the steering shaft from its bearing adapter position. The reuse of the sensor requires placement onto the steering shaft before insertion into the bearing adapter while maintaining the pin to prevent sideways movement. Stand the sensor up onto the steering shaft and the bearing adapter. Maintain a 3 millimeter gap between the sensor and the bearing adapter. Connect the sensor to its port, remove the pin from the sensor body then mount the retainer on the shaft. After installation of the Steering Column to the vehicle you must remove the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) to activate the sir system.
