2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the camshaft on 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer?
A: Select the following tools for Camshaft replacement: Camshaft holding tool (J 44221) and Camshaft sprocket holding tool (J 44222) and torque/angle meter (J 36660-A). The necessary tools include the Camshaft holding tool (J 44221) and the Camshaft sprocket holding tool (J 44222) and the torque/angle meter (J 36660-A). Start your process by taking out the Camshaft cover with its paired bolts for the intake and exhaust Camshaft sprockets. Use the Camshaft sprocket holding tool (J 44222) to secure the cylinder head where it establishes proper chain tension between Camshaft sprockets which safeguards the timing chain elements. Use a j 44222 Camshaft sprocket holding tool to lift off the camshafts and their timing chains before removing the Camshaft cap bolts and caps which should be placed on a rack for correct reinstallation. Next, remove the camshafts. To install the camshafts apply clean engine oil to journals and lobes and journal thrust face before reinstalling the intake and exhaust camshafts to their original positions. The Camshaft holding tool (J 44221) must come into use when the Camshaft flats face upward position while the number 1 cylinder sits at top dead center. Afterward install the Camshaft caps and bolts while tightening cap bolts to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). Put the Camshaft caps back into their initial locations since their direction and numerical ordering is marked by pins on them. After removing the Camshaft holding tool (J 44221) users should put the sprockets back onto the camshafts while also removing the Camshaft sprocket holding tool (J 44222). Add the intake Camshaft sprocket washer along with its bolt and exhaust Camshaft actuator bolt while torquing the intake Camshaft sprocket bolt to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.) first, then perform a second pass using the torque/angle meter (J 36660-A) to turn the bolt an extra 100 degrees. For the exhaust Camshaft actuator bolt, torques to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) initially followed by a final turn of 135 degrees using the torque/angle meter. The technician should start by tightening the bolt to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.) using their first pass before finishing with the torque/angle meter (J 36660-A) for an extra 100 degrees on the second pass. Start by tightening the exhaust Camshaft actuator bolt to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) the torque/angle meter (J 36660-A) was used for a 100 degree torque-on first pass followed by an additional 135 degrees torque-on the third and final pass to complete the fuel system assembly. Finally, install the Camshaft cover.
