2005 Chevrolet Venture Steering Column Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: What should be inspected in accidents with potential steering column damage on 2005 Chevrolet Venture?
A: All cars that have suffered frame damage along with major body or sheet metal damage or struck the Steering Column or used supplemental inflatable restraint systems need inspection of their Steering Column because of potential damage and misalignment. Check the capsules inside the Steering Column bracket assembly slots while examining for any loose elements during hand movements across the slots. When capsule seating on the bracket requires improvement and the bracket uses bolts to connect to the jacket assembly, perform only a bracket replacement but prevent jacket assembly replacement when bracket attachment occurs through welding to the jacket assembly. A collapse test requires comparing the measurement between lower-upper jacket edges and an established reference point to ensure a = 107 mm or 4.21 inch; a new jacket assembly must replace any measuring outside acceptable limits. Visual inspection of the Steering Shaft must be done to check for sheared plastic material and a replacement of the shaft is necessary in case of detection. When Steering Shaft runout measures as a maximum of 1.60 mm using a dial indicator at the lower end of the Steering Shaft during wheel rotation. The technician must inspect all frame damage that could cause Steering Shaft bending.
