How to replace the Fuel Level Sensor assembly on 2005 GMC Sierra 1500?

The replacement process starts by taking out the Fuel Tank while disconnecting both the fuel line and evaporative emission (EVAP) lines from the Fuel Level Sensor. The Fuel Level Sensor assembly requires fuel draining into an approved container to prevent fires and injuries while the fuel should never be stored in open containers. The Fuel Level Sensor lock ring wrench (J 45722) should be used to detach the Fuel Level Sensor lock ring while you remove both the unit and seal before disposing of the discarded seal. Before putting the Fuel Level Sensor in place you should clean the sealing surface areas. Using a new Fuel Level Sensor gasket installation will prevent fuel leaks from occurring. During Fuel Level Sensor installation you must place the fuel strainer in a horizontal position to prevent retardation of the float arm's movement. The first step requires a new Fuel Level Sensor seal which must be installed before the Fuel Level Sensor while you use the Fuel Level Sensor lock ring wrench (J 45722) to tighten the Fuel Level Sensor lock ring. Evaporative emissions tube and fuel tube connections must occur on the Fuel Level Sensor before performing Fuel Tank reinstallation.
