2005 GMC Sierra 1500 Rocker Arm Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the valve rocker arm and push rods on 2005 GMC Sierra 1500?
A: Begin the valve Rocker Arm and push rod replacement by taking out the Rocker Arm cover and storing rocker arms and push rods and pivot support in a rack for retention of original locations. You should first remove the Rocker Arm bolts before taking out the rocker arms together with the Rocker Arm pivot support and pushrods. Clean all needed rocker arms and pushrods before checking them for faults. The process of rock arm and push rod replacement requires engine oil lubrication of both components as well as lubrication of the Rocker Arm bolt flange. Connect the Rocker Arm pivot support into position while checking that pushrods settle correctly within valve lifter sockets and end of rocker arms before proceeding to bolt installation. By rotating the Crankshaft to top dead center (TDC) of the compression stroke you will position the number one Piston and set the cylinder number one rocker arms to their off-lift position along with moving the Crankshaft sprocket key to the 1:30 position. The engine positioning allows tightening of exhaust Rocker Arm bolts for cylinders 1, 2, 7, and 8 to 30 nm while intake Rocker Arm bolts for cylinders 1, 3, 4, and 5 require a torque of 30 nm. The technician first rotates the Crankshaft 360 degrees before applying a torque of 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) to the exhaust Rocker Arm bolts for cylinder 3, 4, 5, 6 and subsequently torques the intake Rocker Arm bolts for cylinders 2, 6, 7, 8 to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). Put the Rocker Arm cover into its proper position as your final step.
