2005 GMC Sierra 3500 Fuel Rail Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the fuel rail assembly on 2005 GMC Sierra 3500?
A: Begin by reducing pressure from the fuel system then remove the wire harness bracket nut before starting replacement of the Fuel Rail assembly. Disconnect the evaporative emission (EVAP) purge solenoid electrical connector as well as the generator electrical connector and manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor and knock sensor electrical connectors. Start by detaching the electronic throttle control (ETC) electrical connector using the gray retainer release followed by black clip depression until the connector disconnects. After that, detach the knock sensor harness connector from the Intake Manifold. First disconnect the main coil electrical connectors and fuel injectors from the right engine side and after that disconnect the left side main coil and fuel injectors. Drop the harness clips from the Fuel Rail before moving the engine wire harness to the side of the work area. Begin marking the Fuel Injector electrical connectors before lifting the cpa retainer one click to access the connector tabs. You can then disconnect each Fuel Injector electrical connector sequentially. The first step is to eliminate the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose together with the fuel feed pipe which supplies fuel to the Fuel Rail. Carefully remove the Fuel Rail after unbolt its bolts while avoiding both spray tips and injector electrical connector terminals and seal exposed fittings to stop contamination. Clean the Fuel Rail using an engine cleaner spray before you take off the lower o-ring seals from the fuel injectors which should be disposed if necessary. Installation requires engine oil lubrication of new Fuel Injector lower o-ring seals which need to be placed onto each injector. The Fuel Rail requires installation which must be followed by coating the 5 mm (0.2 in) thread zones of the Fuel Rail bolts with gm p/n 12345382 threadlock (Canadian P/N 10953489) before torquing them to 10 n.m (89 lb in). The procedure ends with these steps: attach the fuel feed pipe to the Fuel Rail while also attaching the pcv hose and installing Fuel Injector electrical connectors which require correct reassembly through one quick movement of the cpa retainer for each connector. The engine wire harness should be positioned first before connecting main coil and fuel injectors to the left engine side. Then, install harness clips onto the Fuel Rail and the cpa retainer. The right-hand side of the engine requires the cpa retainer installation after connecting main coil and fuel injectors and securing harness clips onto the Fuel Rail. Start by inserting the gray retainer on the etc electrical connector and proceed with connecting the MAP Sensor electrical connector before completing with the knock sensor electrical connector to the Intake Manifold and the evap purge solenoid equipment connector and then the generator electrical connector . Plane the wire harness bracket nut and tighten it to specifications 5 n.m (44 lb in) before you securely replace the fuel fill cap and re-connect the negative Battery Cable and perform leakage inspections by turning the ignition on and off for specific durations.
