  • Q: How to replace the left exhaust manifold (RPO L26) on 2006 Buick Lucerne?
    A: The procedure for left Exhaust Manifold (RPO L26) replacement starts with removing the oil level indicator and tube followed by unplugging the Spark Plug Wires from the spark plugs before removing the Spark Plug wire channel on the rocker cover. First remove the engine harness clip from the engine lift bracket and afterward eliminate the engine lift bracket bolt and nut and separate the engine lift bracket. Remove two exhaust crossover attaching bolts from the left Exhaust Manifold before taking off all Exhaust Manifold heat shield bolts and the shield. Reverse-direction disassembly requires removing the Exhaust Manifold bolt and all its studs along with nuts followed by removing the Exhaust Manifold for discarding its gasket. A new Exhaust Manifold Gasket should be placed onto the studs before it is possible to install the Exhaust Manifold. Screw on the Exhaust Manifold nuts along with studs and bolt while applying 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) torque. The Exhaust Manifold heat shield requires mounting onto the manifold before installing heat shield bolts which should be tightened to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Secure the two bolts connecting the exhaust crossover to the left Exhaust Manifold with torque setting at 18 nm (13 ft.lb.). Install the engine lift bracket while using bolt and nut to fasten it then tighten the bolt to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). First fix the engine harness clip to the engine lift bracket before putting back the Spark Plug wire channel to the rocker cover and wiring Spark Plug Wires to their respective plugs. Install the oil level indicator together with its tube into position.
