2006 Buick Terraza Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the timing chain and sprockets on 2006 Buick Terraza?
A: To replace the Timing Chain and sprockets, the procedure is started by removing the engine front cover. Since the pistons are not in their normal positions, give the Crankshaft a turn until the timing mark matches the camshaft alignment pin and Timing Chain dampener to the Crankshaft sprocket. Then, take out the camshaft sprocket bolt, and the camshaft sprocket with the Timing Chain, and finally the Crankshaft sprocket. Eliminate the Timing Chain dampener bolts and the Timing Chain dampener. If needed, remove the camshaft thrust plate bolts, and the thrust plate. Replace the Timing Chain and gears. If the camshaft thrust plate had been removed, reinstall it and tighten the bolts to 10 nm (89 inch lbs). Install the Crankshaft sprocket and use engine oil supplement (EOS) gm p/n 1052367 (Canadian P/N 992869) or equivalent on the thrust surface of the sprocket. Reinstall the Timing Chain dampener and its bolts tightened up to 21 nm (15 ft. lbs.). Mount the Timing Chain on the gear of the camshaft and hold the camshaft sprocket with the chain hanging down and chain to Crankshaft gear. Align the timing mark of the Crankshaft with the timing mark on the downside of the Timing Chain dampener and align the timing mark in the camshaft gear, center of the locator hole, with that of the top side of the chain dampener. Make sure the dowel of the camshaft engages the dowel hole in the camshaft sprocket. Mount the camshaft sprocket on the camshaft using the same mounting bolt and tighten it to 140 nm (103 ft. lbs.). Finally, oil the Crankshaft and camshaft sprocket using engine oil and then re-fasten the engine front cover.
