2006 Cadillac DTS Exhaust Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the right exhaust manifold on 2006 Cadillac DTS?
A: Start the procedure to replace the right Exhaust Manifold by locking the steering column with the steering column lock pin (J42640). The first step involves both raising and supporting the vehicle when you proceed to take off the rear Exhaust Manifold pipe and the air check valve. Remove the steering gear heat shield by first disconnecting the engine harness clips whereas next removing the bolts of the heat shield. Remove the intermediate shaft seal by unsnapping it from its place and remove the intermediate shaft pinch bolt to break apart the intermediate shaft from the steering gear. The third step requires removal of both right and left engine mount to frame nuts along with transaxle mount to frame nuts. Apply a powerful screw-type jack under the rear section of the frame before unstinating the four bolts which secure the engine frame-to-body connection. With the screw type jack lowered slightly you can drop the rear engine frame section before extracting the heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) and Exhaust Manifold nuts to separate the Exhaust Manifold along with discarding its old gasket. To install the Exhaust Manifold users should apply a new gasket to the cylinder head studs before adding the Exhaust Manifold and tightening the nuts to 25 nm torque specification. You should implement anti-sieze compound on the threads of your old ho2s before mounting and torquing it to 41 nm (30 ft. Lbs.). Use gm p/n 12377953 or equivalent product for this purpose. Return the engine frame to its original position then fasten it with four rearward engine frame-to-body bolts that must reach 191 nm (141 ft. Lbs.) torque setting. Install the screw type jack as the first step then tighten the transaxle mount to frame nuts to 50 nm before moving onto left engine mount to frame nut installation at 80 nm and right engine mount to frame nut installation at 80 nm. Proceed with reassembly by connecting the intermediate shaft to the steering gear while you install its pinch bolt with 45 nm torque then install the intermediate shaft seal. Install the lower Control Arm link ball studs to the electronic suspension position sensor next before placing back the steering gear heat shield along with its bolts (9 Nm or 80 inch lbs.). The procedure ends by following this sequence: reconnect engine harness clips to steering gear heat shield, include the air check valve and rear Exhaust Manifold pipe, drop the vehicle to ground and remove j42640 steering column lock pin, then connect engine harness electrical connector to ho2s and fix ho2s clip to air valve hose bracket before securing the connector position assurance (CPA) retainer.
