2006 Cadillac SRX Neutral Safety Switch Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on the manual shaft shift position on 2006 Cadillac SRX?
A: Begin replacing the manual shaft shift position switch by first raising and supporting the vehicle. The shift linkage needs detachment from the transmission manual shift shaft through the transmission manual shift shaft nut before removing the exhaust system. Use a screwdriver to disconnect the propeller shaft coupler which is attached to the transmission flange and gently move the front propeller shaft backward to let go of the coupler. Fasten the front propeller shaft to the shift control lever with mechanics wire. The j 44767 seal installer (J 44767) enables shaft seal replacement using a small screwdriver to extract the old seal from its position. Only perform cup plug replacement if you notice leaking during the inspection process. Many technicians choose to eliminate the transmission only when they need to replace the manual shift shaft. Start by disconnecting the connector from the manual shift shaft position switch before using a suitable pin punch to remove the retaining pin. Use a transmission jack to support the transmission and detach its body mount but keep the transmission lowered below the floor pan. Then remove the manual shift shaft detent spring along with its retaining bolts. Drop the transmission's rear section below the floor pan to remove the manual shift shaft while extracting the manual shift shaft position switch and the manual shift shaft detent lever together with the manual shift shaft assembly spacer and park pawl actuator as one assembly. Put the manual shift shaft position switch together with other components and place them inside the assembly with special attention to raise the park pawl if required. Insert the manual shift shaft fully into the transmission case then lift the transmission back to its original position while you position the transmission support. After jack removal install the manual shift shaft detent spring while retaining it with control valve body bolts that remain loose. Verify correct interaction between the manual shift shaft detent lever locating pin with the manual valve link and the detent spring roller with the manual shift shaft switch . Install the manual shift shaft position switch retaining pin with a suitable pin punch and then connect the electrical connector. Place a 0.8 mm spacer between the manual shaft detent lever and the manual shaft detent spring before tightening the spring bolts to 11 nm (97 inch lbs.). Position the newly installed shaft seal onto the j 44767 seal installer (J 44767) tool then insert it into the transmission case before installing the transmission fluid pan and filter and reconnecting the shaft seal. Apply lubrication on the new cup plug before installing it until it reaches transmission case depth. The mechanics wire securing the front propeller shaft to the shift control lever must be removed while installing the propeller shaft coupler to the transmission flange and reassembling the exhaust system. Secure the shift linkage to the transmission manual shift shaft then attach and tighten the transmission manual shift shaft nut to 9 nm (80 inch lbs.). Lower the vehicle after performing the shift control linkage adjustment.
