2007 Cadillac SRX Neutral Safety Switch Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on a 5L40-E/5L50-E automatic transmission on 2007 Cadillac SRX?
A: You start manual shift shaft position switch replacement of the 5l40-e/5l50-e automatic transmission by properly raising and supporting the vehicle. An installation of a new shaft seal requires the j 44767 seal installer. First disconnect the shift linkage from the transmission manual shift shaft then remove the transmission manual shift shaft nut. After removing the exhaust system, disconnect the propeller shaft coupler from the transmission flange by pushing the front propeller shaft in the reverse direction. Secure the front component shaft with a part of mechanics wire to the shift control lever. If your transmission is leaking you must use a screwdriver to uninstall and throw away the shaft seal and cup plug. You must remove the transmission from your vehicle only when replacing the manual shift shaft. First remove the transmission fluid pan and filter before disconnecting the electrical connector from the manual shift shaft position switch. Use an appropriate pin punch to take out the manual shift shaft position switch retaining pin before releasing the manual shift shaft detent spring along with its bolts. A suitable transmission jack should be placed under the transmission support before removing the support from the body. Lower the transmission's rear section until the manual shift shaft can pass through the floor pan. Extract the shaft from the transmission case to eliminate the manual shift shaft position switch and manual shift shaft detent lever and manual shift shaft assembly spacer and park pawl actuator as one integrated assembly. Install the manual shift shaft position switch and manual shift shaft detent lever and manual shift shaft assembly spacer and park pawl actuator together as a unit making sure the park pawl remains lifted when necessary. Use the transmission jack to position the transmission at the original height then fix the transmission support before inserting the manual shift shaft fully into its correct position. After removing the transmission jacks you will install the manual shift shaft detent spring then bolt the control valve body in place. Make certain that the manual shift shaft detent lever locating pin properly engages the manual valve link along with the detent spring roller which fits into the manual shift shaft switch. A proper pin punch should be used to add the manual shift shaft position switch retaining pin while users need to connect electrical wires to the manual shift shaft position switch. Fit a 0.8 mm spacer between the detent lever of the manual shaft and its spring before tightening the spring bolts to 11 n.m (97 lb in) then discard the spacer. The transmission fluid pan and filter receive installation before the installer uses the j 44767 seal installer to correctly seat a new shaft seal. Then a new cup plug needs lubrication before installing it to reach transmission case's final position. Dismantle the front propeller shaft mechanics wire from its connection to the shift control lever before installing the propeller shaft coupler between transmission flange and reinstalling the exhaust system. Install the transmission manual shift shaft nut while tightening it to 9 n.m (80 lb in) torque specification. Lower the vehicle followed by a calibration of transmission adaptive pressure (TAP) values through a scan tool while adjusting the shift control linkage for best transmission performance.
