2006 Chevrolet Avalanche 2500 Coolant Pipe Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Coolant Pipe on the 8.1L engine on 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche 2500?
A: The first step when replacing the crossover pipe in an 8.1l requires draining the coolant system. Begin by removing the drive belt tensioner followed by a clamp installation on the water crossover inlet hose. Then cut the inlet hose free. Start by applying the clamp at the water crossover to remove the heater inlet hose. Remove the bypass hose while positioning its clamps at the water crossover and water pump. First remove the generator along with the Power Steering Pump before removing the generator bracket bolts and nut and generator bracket stud and then the generator bracket. Discard both the water crossover gaskets as you uninstall this section's water crossover bolts from location. Water crossover replacement requires complete removal of the water outlet bolts, water outlet, and Thermostat. To assemble the system when using new water crossover hardware start by installing the Thermostat first followed by the water outlet and its bolts and torque them to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). Put new water crossover gaskets into position before installing the water crossover and tightening its bolts to a torque of 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Secure the generator bracket with the stud at 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.) while installing the bracket bolts and nut to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). After reinstalling the Power Steering Pump and generator you must reinstall the bypass hose using its clamps at both the water crossover and water pump locations. The heater inlet hose should receive its installation at the water crossover while a clamp is positioned next before fixing both pieces with their clamps. The last step includes installing the drive belt tensioner while filling the cooling system.
