2006 Chevrolet Cobalt Tie Rod End Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End on 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: You must elevate the vehicle for maintenance of the Rack And Pinion outer Tie Rod End. Lift up the vehicle before starting work and loosen both the tie rod nuts as well as the inner tie rod jam nut. The tie rod to Steering Knuckle nut should be removed before tossing it away. First remove the outer tie rod from the Steering Knuckle with the steering linkage and tie rod puller (J 24319-B). Write down the number of turns required for removal use when reinstalling. Then detach the outer tie rod from the inner tie rod before taking it off and recording all measurements. Remove the outer to inner tie rod jam nut from service before discarding it. Clean all threads from the inner tie rod before putting on an established outer to inner tie rod jam nut. Count the threads on the total tie rod then mount it to the inner rod before connecting the rod to the Steering Knuckle. Apply a new outer tie rod nut onto its assembly and secure it at 60 nm (44 ft. Lbs.). Set the toe by completing installation of the front wheel.
