How to service and repair the front coil springs and shock absorber on 2006 Chevrolet HHR?

To service and repair the suspension strut you need to lift first the strut from the vehicle. Install the strut with the help of strut spring compressor (J 45400). Ensure the spring is compressed by the use of the turn of the spring compressor forcing screw compresses the coil spring. Unscrew the forcing screw for compressor to get rid of the upper strut mount and coil spring. Use a 45 torx socket for supporting the strut shaft and a strut rod socket or an equivalent to unfasten the upper strut mount nut. With the upper strut mount and coil spring taken off the strut spring compressor (J 45400) assembly, install the coil spring and upper strut mount onto the compressor. Once more, it is necessary to turn spring compressor forcing screw (J 45400) so that coil spring is compressed, then install strut to coil spring and upper strut mount. Loosely install the strut retaining nut and install the upper nut (with 45 TORX socket to hold the strut shaft and a strut rod socket or equivalent) to the strut nut mount at 75 nm (55 ft. Lbs.). Finally, take out the strut from the strut spring compressor (J 45400) and reattain it back to the vehicle.
