2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Clutch assembly on 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
A: To replace the compressor clutch assembly, first collect the tools. J 37872 bearings and J 6083 pliers. Remove the compressor or discard the compressor clutch plate bolt and using the Compressor Clutch Holding Tool (J 37872) to prevent the compressor clutch plate to turn. Quantum remove the three adjustable dowels into the Compressor Clutch Holding Tool (J 37872) with three 5/16 x 1 Inch bolts. Next, remove the compressor clutch plate from the compressor and then take out the compressor pulley snap ring with the Snap Ring Pliers (J 6083) and the compressor pulley. It is then that the Snap Ring Pliers (J 6083) is employed again to unfasten the compressor clutch coil snap ring and the compressor clutch coil. Eat it clean by clutch plate bolt threads using an M6x1.0 tap and blow out debris with Compressed air for installation. Install the compressor clutch coil, then install the compressor clutch coil snap ring by using the Snap Ring Pliers (J 6083). Fits the compressor pulley and attach it with a snap along with its ring also using the Snap Ring Pliers (J 6083). Firmly apply a tiny amount of oil over the 0.4mm (0.016inch) air-shim and position it within the clutch drive plate prior to installation of the compressor clutch plate. Measure the air gap from the pulley to the drive plate and tune the shims so that the air gap is in the range of 0.3-0.6mm(0.012-0.024 in) so that the drive plate does not drag the pulley when it is rotated. Install the clutch drive plate bolt and make sure a new bolt has colored adhesive on at least 5 threads, and tighten it to 12Nm (106lb in) with the help of the Compressor Clutch Holding Tool (J 37872) to hold the compressor clutch plate. Lastly, reinstall the compressor and do a fittings test using the Leak Test Tool (J 39400-A).
