- Q: How to replace the evaporator core in an A/C system on 2006 GMC Savana 2500?A: Recovery of refrigerant should be the first step before removing the Evaporator core. The repair procedure begins by detaching the low pressure sensor electrical connector and the Blower Motor assembly electrical connector as well as the Blower Motor resistor assembly electrical connector. Start by removing the retaining nut from the Evaporator inlet tube followed by the Evaporator inlet tube retaining screw before extracting both the tube along with its o-ring seal. First remove the retaining nut from the accumulator followed by removal of the accumulator together with its o-ring seal. The next step requires removing screws from the blower module assembly and the assembly itself. Take out the Evaporator core as the last step from its position in the Evaporator and blower module assembly. When replacing the Evaporator core you should introduce pag oil into the unit as specified amount. Fasten the new Evaporator before installing the engine compartment and finally fasten the retaining screws to secure the parts together. Attach the accumulator to the Evaporator previously covered by new o-ring seals while securing both components with the retaining nut which needs to reach a torque force of 18 n.m (13 lb ft). The installation of the Evaporator inlet tube begins with attaching it to the Evaporator before tightening the retaining nut to 16 n.m (12 lb ft) and securing the Evaporator inlet tube retaining screw. The technician should reconnect electrical wires to the Blower Motor resistor assembly while also connecting the electrical connectors from the Blower Motor assembly and low pressure sensor assembly. Whether installed or charged with refrigerant, progress to install the coolant recovery reservoir followed by an evacuation and recharging procedure on the a/c system. The halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) will test for leaks in the fittings of components.
