2007 Buick LaCrosse Alternator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the alternator (LY7) on 2007 Buick LaCrosse?
A: The first step to replace the generator (LY7) requires removal of the Drive Belt from the generator and disconnection of the battery negative cable. First support the vehicle with jack stands before you disconnect both the electrical connector and generator from its system. Access the generator outlet bat terminal by relocating its protective boot and removing the generator output bat terminal nut so you can disconnect the battery positive lead. The generator installation process starts by removing lower bolts then lowering the vehicle before the final removal step of the generator upper bolt. Position the generator on the engine first then mount the generator upper bolt for installation. Support the vehicle through its lift position while tightening lower generator bolts to a torque setting of 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Use a 10 n.m (89 lb in) torque wrench to tighten the battery positive lead between the generator and bat terminal then install the bat terminal boot. Before lowering the vehicle the generator's electrical connector must be connected followed by Drive Belt installation to the generator and lastly negative Battery Cable reinstallation.
