2007 Chevrolet Cobalt Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: What tools are required to service and repair the valve guide seal, replace the valve stem oil seal, and valve spring on 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: The required tools for Valve Stem Oil Seal repair involve a valve spring compressor (J 43649) plus a Valve Stem Oil Seal remover (J 36017) and a flywheel holding tool (J 43653). First stop the Crankshaft from turning to shield the flywheel holding tool (J 43653) from compressed air harm. Set the parking brake and keep vehicles with manual transmission in first gear before starting work. When working on automatic transmissions you should remove the starter to begin. Put the flywheel holding tool (J 43653) in place and take out both the Camshaft and its roller followers. Put valve spring compressor j 43649 onto the cylinder head first and take out the spark plugs afterwards. Direct the air hose adapter into the Spark Plug hole and apply 690 kpa (100 psi) cylinder pressure. Pressurize and lower the compression tool before taking off the valve spring retainers and valve spring. You need to attach the Valve Stem Oil Seal remover (part J 36017) to take out the valve seal. After placing the new valve seal with the Valve Stem Oil Seal remover tool (J 36017), insert the valve spring next. Position the valve spring into place with a second compression then put on the spring keepers. Unplug the air hose from the Spark Plug opening and remove the valve spring compressor j 43649 from the cylinder head. Put back the spark plugs plus Camshaft rollers and Camshaft into place while replacing the starter if it was taken out. When taking out the tool, also pull out the flywheel holding tool j 43653.
