2007 Chevrolet Colorado Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the battery positive and negative cables with Battery Cable on 2007 Chevrolet Colorado?
A: When replacing battery positive and negative cables you must select new cables which duplicate the original format including type, diameter, length alongside exact routing instructions. The process starts with disconnecting the negative Battery Cable and moving to open the protective cover for accessing the positive Battery Cable terminal. Twist the positive cable nut loose but keep it attached to the battery then take off the positive Battery Cable. The engine wiring harness' electrical connector at the generator battery control module requires disconnection while the engine harness clip needs to be taken from the upper battery box section. First detach the Battery Cable wiring harness electrical connector from its connection with the body wiring harness electrical connector before removing the bolt which fastened the negative Battery Cable ground to the battery tray. First remove the generator battery control module clip from the upper battery box then use the fingers to press both locking tabs toward the inside to uncover the underhood fuse block. Finally release the nuts to remove the Battery Cable connections from the underhood fuse block. First disconnect Battery Cable terminal nut from starter by removing clips (1, 2) at the battery tray and left wheelhouse liner and starter terminal. The battery cables can be removed from the vehicle only after loosening the bolt that grounds the negative terminal to the engine block and after releasing the cable clip from the engine wiring harness bracket. The installation process requires you to place battery cables inside the vehicle followed by attaching the Battery Cable clip to the engine wiring harness bracket then fastening the bolt securing the negative Battery Cable ground terminal against the engine block using 35 n.m (26 lb ft) torque. First attach the starter terminal of the positive Battery Cable through using the starter terminal nut followed by reinstalling the left wheelhouse liner and securing the Battery Cable harness clips (1, 2) to the battery tray. Follow this procedure to tighten battery cables with 10 n.m (89 lb in) torque to the underhood fuse block and afterward install its cover together with locking tabs. The generator battery control module clip needs to connect to the upper battery box before securing the bolt for the negative Battery Cable ground to the battery tray at 9 n.m (80 lb in). Subsequently, connect the Battery Cable wiring harness electrical connector to the body wiring harness electrical connector and finalize the connection of the engine wiring harness electrical connector to the generator battery control module. The engine wiring harness clip receives installation on the upper battery box while the positive Battery Cable is connected to the battery along with a torque setting of 9 n.m (80 lb in) on the positive Battery Cable nut. The last step involves closing the protective cover while connecting the negative Battery Cable.
