Before exchanging the Inflatable Restraint Side Impact Sensor the SIR system needs to be deactivated. Begin by removing the front door trim panel and taking out the inflatable restraint side impact sensor retaining bolts from the area. Then extract the sensor from the vehicle. The new sensor installation requires mounting it into the vehicle followed by applying retaining bolts at 9 N.m (80 lb in). Then reinstall the front side door trim panel and activate the SIR system.
