  A: Disabling of the sir system should occur before any air bag clock spring assembly / spiral cable installation begins. Begin by disabling the sir system followed by the order of upper and lower shroud components before Steering Wheel removal. Before extracting the sir coil from the Steering Shaft separate the Steering Wheel column wire harness from wire harness straps and remove the retaining ring. When installing the sir coil assembly keep it in position through wheel alignment according to a straight-ahead orientation. The sir coil assembly requires centering if needed during the installation process. Position the existing sir coil assembly correctly onto the Steering Shaft assembly while aligning its opening to the horn tower and the locating bump between the two tabs on the lock housing cover and sleeve assembly. When installing a new sir coil assembly use the pre-centered assembly to connect to the Steering Shaft assembly, position it correctly before removing and discarding the centering tab before installing the retaining ring to the Steering Shaft assembly. Route the lower coil wire harness along the steering column and reconnect the Steering Wheel column wire harness to the wire harness straps. Reinstall the Steering Wheel while reusing the upper and lower shrouds and sir system then activate the sir system.
