• Q: How to Remove and Replace the Air Bag Clockspring Assembly on 2008 Chevrolet Corvette?

  A: A disabling of the sir system must occur before removing or installing the air bag clock spring assembly / spiral cable. The sir system should be removed first followed by upper and lower shroud removal steps. First disconnect the Steering Wheel column wire harness from its wire harness straps before removing the Steering Wheel. First extract the retaining ring from the Steering Shaft before removing the sir coil from inside the shaft. During the installation stage check that the sir coil assembly remains centered through wheel straight-ahead alignment. Align the opening of the existing sir coil assembly with the horn tower and the locating bump between the two tabs on the lock housing cover and sleeve assembly before seating it onto the Steering Shaft assembly. When installing new sir coil assemblies the pre-centered coil must be assembled to the Steering Shaft along with proper alignment before removing the centering tab and installing a retaining ring to complete the assembly. Refrain the lower coil wire harness along the steering column before reconnecting the Steering Wheel column wire harness to wire harness straps. Then reinstall the Steering Wheel. To finish the repair process install the sir system then enable the sir system.
