2007 GMC Canyon Cam Gear Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the cam gear on the intake side on 2007 GMC Canyon?
A: The procedure to replace the camshaft intake sprocket begins by removing the camshaft cover then rotating the Crankshaft clockwise until the #1 Piston arrives at top dead center (TDC) compression phase with the word delphi on the exhaust camshaft position actuator directed parallel to the Cylinder Head to cam cover mating surface. The timing mark on the intake camshaft sprocket establishes a guide for marking the adjacent section of Timing Chain. Position the camshaft holding tool (J 44221) at the rear of the camshafts before using the Timing Chain retention tool (J 44217) along with the chain holding tool (J-44217-45) to secure Timing Chain links near both engine sides by tightening wingnuts for stable gage blocks placement on the head edge. Start by removing and discarding the intake camshaft sprocket bolt before departing with the intake camshaft sprocket. To install properly position the marked Timing Chain link with the intake camshaft sprocket timing mark. Then use a 25 mm wrench on the camshaft hex and ensure the alignment pin snaps into place. Use the angle meter (J 45059) to tighten the new intake camshaft sprocket bolt until it reaches 20 n.m (15 lb ft) and an additional 100 degrees. Finish the procedure by taking out both timing tools named Timing Chain retention tool (J 44217) and chain holding tool (J-44217-45). Remove the camshaft holding tool (J 44221) then install the camshaft cover.
