2007 GMC Savana 2500 Camshaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the camshaft on 2007 GMC Savana 2500?
A: To replace the Camshaft, a person must remove the radiator support, the engine front cover, and valve lifters. After that, remove the bolt and Camshaft sensor and turn the engine until the timing marks on the Crankshaft and the Camshaft are brought into line without rotating the Crankshaft assembly when the Timing Chain is unscrewed to prevent damaging the piston assemblies or valves. Remove the Camshaft sprocket and resituate the Timing Chain, the Camshaft retainer bolts, and retainer while being cautious not to damage the Camshaft bearings where all Camshaft journals are the same diameter. Remove the Camshaft by mounting three m8-1.25x100mm (M8-1.25x4.0in) bolts on the front bolt holes and use them as a handle to carefully pull out the Camshaft from the engine block and remove the bolts. If required, clean and check the Camshaft and bearings. During installation, lubricate the Camshaft journals with clean engine oil then install it again in the engine block using the same three bolts in a careful manner then removing the bolts later. Make sure the retainer plate is installed with the sealing gasket side down to the engine block and that the gasket surface is clean. Install the Camshaft retainer and bolts, tightening them to 25 n.m (18 lb ft), insert the Camshaft sprocket and align the Timing Chain with it and tighten the bolts on Camshaft sprocket to 35 n.m (26 lb ft). Check for damage to the Camshaft sensor o-ring seal if untapped, stuff it with unclean engine lubricant and insert the Camshaft sensor and bolt, bolting it tightly at 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Lastly, replace valve lifters, front cover, and radiator support.
