Q: How to replace the oil pan on 2007 GMC Savana 2500?
A: To replace the Oil Pan, first, if your axle has all the wheel drive (AWD) then taking off inner axle housing nuts and washers from this bracket along with supporting the front drive axle with a proper jack. Then undo the differential carrier lower and upper mounting bolts and nuts: lower the front drive axle and unfasten the transmission cover bolt, crossbar bolts and crossbar. Next, take off the bolt and cover of the transmission, drain the engine oil, and remove engine Oil Filter afterwards reinstalling the drain plug and the Oil Filter until tight. In the case of vehicles with the 4l60-e automatic transmission, pull out the transmission bolt and stud on the right, and the bottom bolt on the left; remove the transmission converter cover bolts for those who have the 4l80-e automatic transmission. Remove the oil level sensor electrical connector, remove the Battery Cable channel bolt, slide the channel pin out of the Oil Pan tab, and remove the positive Battery Cable clip bolt. Go on with the removal of the Oil Pan bolts and the Oil Pan, while making sure that foreign material will not enter the oil passages. If needed, drill out the Oil Pan Gasket retaining rivets and remove the gasket, throwing the gasket and rivets away. Perform the cleaning and inspection of the engine Oil Pan if necessary. For installation, use a 5 mm (0.20 in) length of sealant 20 mm (0.80 in) long from the engine block to the tabs of the front and rear cover gaskets, which stick up into the Oil Pan surface, making sure that the oil gallery passageways are correctly aligned. Pre-assemble the Oil Pan Gasket to the pan, the Oil Pan and gasket on to the engine block and tighten down the Oil Pan bolts until snug but not tight. If using the automatic transmission (4L80-E), install the transmission converter cover bolts snugly; for the 4l60-e, install the transmission bolt and stud into the right till it is snug along with the bottom bolt of the left side. Brake the Oil Pan front cover and rear cover bolts with 25 n.m (18 lb ft) and 12 n.m (106 lb in) respectively, and converter cover and transmission bolts/stud will come to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Mount the positive Battery Cable clip bolt and tighten it to 9 n.m (80 lb in), insert the channel pin in the Oil Pan tab, and mount the Battery Cable channel bolt, tightening it to 12 n.m (106 lb in). Connect the oil level sensor electrical connector, install the transmission cover and bolt, tightened bolt to 12 n.m (106 lb in) and install cross bar and cross bar bolts and tighten the bolt to 100 n.m (74 lb ft). Lastly, install transmission cover bolt, lift the front drive axle into position and if equipped with awd install differential carrier upper mounting bolt and nut but only tighten it till it is snug, then lower mounting bolt and nut tighten it to 100 n.m (75 lb ft), and finally install the inner axle housing washers and nuts to the bracket and then tightening them again to 100 n.m (75 lb ft). Pressevent the two jack and remove it from the front of the drive axle after you install a new engine oil and a new Oil Filter or get it replaced.
