The first step involves removing the battery positive cable and its connection to the battery then opening the electrical center cover by pressing its tabs. Proceed by removing the nut which secures the battery positive cable to the electrical center followed by relocating the protective boot from the generator output BAT terminal. Then disconnect the battery positive lead from the generator using the generator output BAT terminal nut. You should detach the battery positive cable from the starter by removing the starter terminal nut and lower the vehicle to remove the battery positive cable. Set the battery positive cable at the engine position after which you should raise and support the vehicle. Fasten the positive terminal of the battery cable to the starter followed by installation and torque tightening of the starter terminal nut to 13 N.m (115 lb in). Connect the generator to its BAT terminal nut before tightening it to 13 N.m (115 lb in). After installing the protective boot to the generator output BAT terminal the vehicle can be lowered for installation of the battery positive cable nut which must be tightened to 15 N.m (11 lb ft). Veteran service members must install the electrical cover panel while using 17 N.m (13 lb ft) torque to connect the battery positive cable to the battery before reconnecting the negative cable.
