2008 Buick LaCrosse Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End on 2008 Buick LaCrosse?
A: Start the replacement of the Rack And Pinion outer Tie Rod End by raising the vehicle and safely supporting it. Take off the tire together with its accompanying wheel. Start by removal of the prevailing torque nut connected to the outer tie rod assembly then proceed by loosening the jam nut found on the inner tie rod assembly. Inserting a wedge between a joint and its attached component during disconnection poses the risk of damaged seals that lead to early failure of the joint. The universal steering linkage puller (J 24319-B) needs use to remove the outer tie rod assembly from the Steering Knuckle before the outer tie rod assembly is detached from the inner tie rod assembly. The installation process requires the assembly of an outer tie rod assembly to an inner tie rod assembly but does not include any jam nut tightening. You must join the outer tie rod assembly with the Steering Knuckle followed by installation. Add the prevailing torque nut to the outer tie rod assembly before tightening it to reach 30 n.m and 120 degrees (22 lb ft and 120 degrees). The nylon washer should be fully exposed by 2.5 to 4.5 threads. To finish up the task reinstall the tire and wheel assembly and then lower the vehicle while performing a front end alignment check.
