• Q: How to replace the intermediate steering shaft on 2008 Buick LaCrosse?

  A: To replace the intermediate Steering Shaft, perform the following step first: raise and support the vehicle. Position the seal to reach the intermediate Steering Shaft lower pinch bolt, then remove the lower pinch bolt from power steering gear stub shaft. Before you unplug the Steering Column or intermediate shaft stow the front wheels straight and the Steering Column in lock to avoid misaligning the parts resulting to sir coil assembly damage. To lock the Steering Column in position, insert the j 42640 (Steering Column Lock Pin) into the hole on the Steering Column. Disconnect the intermediate Steering Shaft from the power steering gear stub shaft with the noted alignment for installation. Lower the vehicle and disconnect the intermediate Steering Shaft from the Steering Column, again taking note of the alignment of shaft to column for installation, and remove the upper pinch bolt from the intermediate Steering Shaft. Take out the steering wheel. For installation, align the intermediate Steering Shaft with the seal and attach it to the Steering Column (as also pointed out during removal). Mount the upmost boot to the ridge of the intermediate shaft pass-through, after which the latter should be bolted to the upper intermediate Steering Shaft pinch bolt, tightened to 48 n.m (35 lb ft). Mount the intermediate Steering Shaft seal onto the Steering Column, lift the vehicle, and attach the intermediate Steering Shaft to the power steering gear stub shaft as recorded during the process of removal. Last, install the lower intermediate steering pinch bolt with a torque of 48 n.m (35 lb ft), connect the intermediate steering seal onto the power steering gear, rotating the lower seal as required for maximum clearance, lower the vehicle.
