    Q: How to Service and Repair the Steering Shaft on Buick LaCrosse?
    A: The first step before replacing the intermediate Steering Shaft involves lifting and supporting your vehicle. Use the positioner to access the lower part of the intermediate Steering Shaft's pinch bolt before removing the lower bolt on the power steering gear stub shaft. Before removing any components start by positioning the Steering Column at lock and ensuring the front wheels face forward. This step prevents alignment issues that would harm the sir coil assembly. After the j 42640 Steering Column lock pin (J 42640) fits into the Steering Column access hole users can preserve the Steering Column's orientation. First disconnect the intermediate Steering Shaft from the power steering gear stub shaft while carefully recording its alignment setup. Then lower the vehicle to the ground. First reposition the seal to reach the upper pinch bolt on the intermediate Steering Shaft then remove this pinch bolt and finally separate the intermediate Steering Shaft from the Steering Column while keeping track of the required alignment for future reassembly. The intermediate Steering Shaft requires removal from its position in the vehicle. After securing the intermediate Steering Shaft inside the seal, reinstall it to the Steering Column while maintaining the original connection points as established during disassembly. Fasten the upper intermediate Steering Shaft pinch bolt to a torque specification of 48 nm (35 ft. Lbs.). After connecting the intermediate Steering Shaft seal to the Steering Column the technician will raise the vehicle to complete the power steering gear stub shaft installation using markings made during removal. After securing the lower intermediate Steering Shaft pinch bolt at 48 nm (35 ft. Lbs.) install the intermediate Steering Shaft seal onto the power steering gear. Then rotate the lower seal to achieve maximum clearance before lowering the vehicle.
