2007 Buick LaCrosse Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the intermediate steering shaft on 2007 Buick LaCrosse?
A: The first step toward intermediate Steering Shaft replacement begins with vehicle lifting and support. The seal provides access to the lower pinch bolt holding the intermediate Steering Shaft to the power steering gear stub shaft before disconnecting that bolt. You must position the Steering Column to lock while keeping the front wheels parallel because any alignment error could harm the sir coil assembly during installation. Insert the j 42640 Steering Column lock pin (J 42640) through the Steering Column access hole to maintain proper positioning before unscrewing the intermediate Steering Shaft from the power steering gear stub shaft. Remember the shaft alignment for future installation. Follow these steps: lower the vehicle, remove the upper pinch bolt from the intermediate Steering Shaft and disconnect this shaft from the Steering Column while marking the shaft's alignment for future installation. Take out the main Steering Shaft component from the whole vehicle system. Before installation place the intermediate Steering Shaft into its seal while maintaining the original connection between the Steering Column as observed during disassembly. Position the upper boot onto the ridge around the intermediate shaft pass-through and secure the upper intermediate Steering Shaft pinch bolt with 48 n.m of torque (35 lb ft). First position the intermediate Steering Shaft seal onto the Steering Column and then lift the vehicle and join the intermediate Steering Shaft to the power steering gear stub shaft following the startup procedure. Install the lower intermediate Steering Shaft pinch bolt at 48 n.m (35 lb ft) torque while following installation notes and rotating the lower seal to achieve maximum clearance after connecting it to the power steering gear.
