    A: Start by applying a strap to secure the Steering Wheel against rotation before locking the Steering Column to prevent sir system damage. Locking down the Steering Wheel must happen before you detach the Steering Column and intermediate shaft along with steering gear. Once components get disconnected move neither the front tires nor wheels because this will produce misalignment during installation. The first step requires the removal of the left side engine splash shield. Position scribe marks on both the intermediate Steering Shaft and the upper intermediate Steering Shaft to ensure correct alignment when reinstallation occurs. After removing the intermediate Steering Shaft bolt you must mark the lower intermediate shaft along with marking the steering gear. First disconnect the lower intermediate Steering Shaft bolt before separating the lower intermediate Steering Shaft from the steering gear and the intermediate Steering Shaft from the upper intermediate Steering Shaft. Keep the intermediate Steering Shaft connected to the vehicle then remove the lower intermediate Steering Shaft before marking both components with scribe marks. Leave the intermediate Steering Shaft bolt in place to disconnect the lower intermediate Steering Shaft from its position at the lower intermediate Steering Shaft. When a new intermediate Steering Shaft needs installation the alignment marks from the replaced component must get transferred to the new part to prevent an off-center Steering Wheel. The intermediate Steering Shaft accepts the lower intermediate Steering Shaft before receiving the intermediate Steering Shaft bolt at its lower position where you must tighten it to 30 n.m (23 lb ft). Install the lower intermediate Steering Shaft to the vehicle using an intermediate Steering Shaft connection prior to bolting it to the upper intermediate Steering Shaft at 30 n.m (23 lb ft). Use the lower intermediate Steering Shaft to join the steering gear while installing the lower intermediate Steering Shaft bolt then torque it to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Install the left side engine splash shield as the last step.
