2008 Cadillac DTS Exhaust Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the right side exhaust manifold on 2008 Cadillac DTS?
A: Safety goggles along with gloves should be worn prior to replacing the right side Exhaust Manifold. For the replacement start by taking off the connector position assurance retainer and disconnect the engine harness electrical connector that serves the heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S). The ho2s clip should be taken out from the secondary air injection (AIR) valve hose bracket. Use the j 42640 (Steering Column Lock Pin) to lock the column then raise the vehicle to work. Disembowel the Exhaust Manifold pipe from the rear side and extract the air check valve from its position. Employee must disconnect engine harness clips (2 and 3) from the steering gear heat shield and proceed to remove all heat shield bolts followed by the heat shield itself. Users need to detach lower Control Arm ball studs connected to the electronic suspension position sensor link followed by unsnapping the intermediate shaft seal before detaching the intermediate shaft from the steering gear through pinch bolt removal. Shackle the rear frame part with a screw-based jack while you remove four engine frame-to-body bolts at the back. Then lift the jack 1.5 inches (4 cm) to let the engine frame descend. Detach the ho2s followed by Exhaust Manifold nuts and remove the Exhaust Manifold while discarding the existing Exhaust Manifold Gasket. You should begin the installation by putting an Exhaust Manifold Gasket onto the cylinder head studs followed by Exhaust Manifold installation before tightening the Exhaust Manifold nuts to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Apply gm p/n 12377953 anti-seize compound or equivalent on the threads of used ho2s before you install it by torquing to 41 n.m (30 lb ft). After placing the engine frame in its desired position you must install four rearward engine frame-to-body bolts before tightening them to 191 n.m (141 lb ft). Then remove the screw type jack. Use the intermediate shaft to connect with the steering gear then install its pinch bolt with 45 n.m (33 lb ft) torque followed by inserting the intermediate shaft seal. Reattach the lower Control Arm ball studs of the electronic suspension position sensor link before installing the steering gear heat shield along with its bolts secured at 9 n.m (80 lb in). Complete the connection of steering gear heat shield harness clips (3 and 2) followed by installing the air check valve and rear Exhaust Manifold pipe before performing a vehicle drop procedure. Then separate the j 42640 (Steering Column Lock Pin) from the steering column then rewire the engine harness electrical connector to the ho2s along with installing the ho2s clip on the air valve hose bracket before finishing with the cpa retainer installation.
