2008 Chevrolet Colorado Timing Chain Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the timing chain and sprocket on 2008 Chevrolet Colorado?
A: To replace the Timing Chain and sprocket, first remove the #1 cylinder spark plug, camshaft cover, camshaft position (CMP) sensor, and engine front cover. Rotate the Crankshaft clockwise until the #1 piston is at top dead center (TDC) on the compression stroke. Install the j 44221 Camshaft holding tool to the rear of the camshafts, and pull the tension on the Timing Chain by moving the tensioner shoe inward and insert a tee in the torque wrench to hold the shoe in place. Extract and dispose of the exhaust Camshaft position actuator bolt and actuator, intake Camshaft sprocket bolt and sprocket, and finally, the Timing Chain and the Crankshaft sprocket. For installation, ensure the #1 piston is at tdc with the Crankshaft pin straight up. After mounting the Crankshaft sprocket on the way, attach the intake Camshaft sprocket to it while the dark link of the chain is positioned at the inspection line of the intake Camshaft sprocket. Push the Timing Chain through the opening at the cylinder head and fix it to the sprocket of the Crankshaft with the dark link aligned with the timing mark. Mount the intake Camshaft sprocket onto intake Camshaft and bolt it down using a new bolt and tighten it to 20 n.m (15 lb ft) additionally rotating it 100 degrees with the j 45059 angle meter. Make sure the Camshaft actuator is advanced, fully, fit the exhaust Camshaft actuator, by aligning dark link with the timing mark on the actuator sprocket. The hex of the Camshaft should be aligned with the help of a 25 mm (1 in) wrench to assure that the alignment pin is in place. Line up and affix the actuator to the exhaust Camshaft with a new bolt torqued to 25 n.m(18 lb ft) additional to +135 degrees using the j 45059. Pull out the tee from the Timing Chain Tensioner then the j 44221 from the camshafs ensuring that the dark links on the Timing Chain meet the marks on the sprockets. Finally, reinstall the engine front cover, camshaft position (CMP) sensor, camshaft cover, and #1 cylinder spark plug.
