  • Q: How to replace the front coil springs on 2008 Chevrolet Express 2500?
    A: Begin servicing front Coil Springs by raising and supporting the vehicle and then removing the tire and wheel. Start by removing the shock absorber then proceed to remove the front stabilizer shaft link. A suitable safety jack should support the lower Control Arm in the area near its lower Ball Joint. In order to release tension from the lower Control Arm you need to use the otc 7045-b (coil spring compressor tool) along with making sure the retaining pin rests in the upper plate slot before compressing the front coil spring with otc 7045-b. To access the lower Control Arm pivot bolts need removal of the retaining nuts and washers before taking out the front and rear pivot bolts. First lower the lower Control Arm to remove the coil spring and insulator and then disengage the otc 7045-b from the coil spring. Place the Coil Spring Insulator on the coil spring while the otc 7045-b locks it into position again. Position both ends of the spring correctly; flat end into shock tower and pointed end into lower Control Arm pocket. Replace the coil spring and insulator to the lower Control Arm before raising the Control Arm into position while positioning a safety jack under the rear leg adjacent to the bushing. Secure the lower Control Arm pivot bolt retaining nuts and washers to 155 n.m (114 lb ft) for vehicles without 14050/12300 gvw, or 240 n.m (177 lb ft) for those with 14050/12300 gvw or a diesel engine. Install the front stabilizer shaft link after safety jack removal then put in the shock absorber before reinstalling the tire and wheel. Replace the tire and wheel before lowering the vehicle back down.
