- Q: How to replace the starter motor on 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L engines on 2008 Chevrolet Express 3500?A: To remove the Starter motor from 4.8l, 5.3l, and 6.0l engines, remove disconnect the negative Battery Cable and lift up your vehicle safely. Push the right transmission cover bolt and the Starter bolts, then unplug the oil level sensor electronic connector. Push the Starter forward so that it is free from the transmission before you remove the nut from the Starter solenoid and take out the Starter lead from the solenoid stud and the positive cable from the Starter stud. Set the Starter down on a workbench and unsnap the transmission cover from it. If needed, fitting of the Starter shield, fitting of the transmission cover on the Starter and linking the positive cable. Mount the Starter lead nut and tighten it to 10 n.m (89 lb in), and then connect the Starter solenoid lead to the solenoid stud and tighten the solenoid nut to 3.4 n.m (30 lb in). Push the Starter to the rear side and fix the Starter bolts with a 50 n.m (37 lb ft) torque. Connect the oil level sensor electrical connector, plug the absorber drain tube assembly, install right transmission cover bolt and tighten it to 9 n.m (80 lb in). Finally, drop the vehicle and replug the negative Battery Cable.
