How to replace the ignition lock cylinder on 2008 GMC Acadia?

In order to remove the ignition switch lock cylinder, remove the negative cable of the battery. Take off steering column trim covers, set the ignition lock cylinder to the RUN position and push the retainer off. Install, with appropriate rotation, the new lock cylinder, and re-fit the trim covers; and re-connect the battery.
