Q: How to Replace a Power Steering Hose on 2008 GMC Acadia?
A: The first step to replace the power steering gear outlet pipe/hose should start with securing the Steering Wheel using a strap to stop rotation while locking the Steering Column to protect the sir system. When preparing for a power steering fluid removal you must first drain as much fluid from the remote reservoir before disconnecting the steering linkage by removing outer tie rods from steering knuckles, stabilizer shaft links at stabilizer shaft and intermediate Steering Shaft from the steering gear. The procedure requires removal of the rear propeller shaft together with the underbody rear side rails and frame brace and right side Catalytic Converter if the equipment exists. Put jack stands under the vehicle to support its rear end at the front frame area and remove steering gear heat shields from their place. Begin by setting drain pans at the workspace. Then remove the left and right front frame reinforcement mounting bolts followed by loosening all front frame reinforcement and mounting bolts. Lower the frame until the steering gear opens up for access. The outlet hose requires users to remove both the inlet hose retaining plate bolt and inlet and outlet pipe clip bolt before extracting the hoses away from the steering gear. To remove the outlet hose from your vehicle start by removing its bracket bolt while discarding the crimp clamp then disconnect the rubber segment from the metal segment and remove any plastic retaining clips as a final step. Place the new power steering gear outlet hose inside the vehicle before installing a new clamp and joining the rubber segment to the metal segment. Secure the bracket bolt to 8 n.m (71 lb in). Anchor the hoses inside the steering gear using the retaining plate followed by securing the clip bolts at 9 n.m (80 lb in). To finish the installation replace front frame reinforcement mounting bolts at 50 n.m (37 lb ft) followed by tightening the rear front frame mounting bolts to 100 n.m (74 lb ft) at 90 degrees after which the procedure is performed again for front frame mounting bolts. The technician clears away excess fluid while reattaching the steering gear heat shields together with the right side Catalytic Converter and frame brace and underbody rear side rails and installs the rear propeller shaft when present. Secure the intermediate Steering Shaft to meet the steering gear along with the stabilizer shaft links then continue with the steering linkage outer tie rods. Complete the power steering system fill process followed by bleeding and finish by making a front toe adjustment.
