2008 GMC Envoy Hood Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace the Hood Cable for Release Cable on 2008 GMC Envoy?
A: The process starts with removing the left front door sill plate before proceeding to remove the left closeout/insulator panel along with the grille. Start by dismantling the Hood Latch while extracting the Hood Cable from the Hood Latch assembly. Using mechanic's wire attach an exterior cable length but make note of its path before unclipping any fender retainers. Pass the cable mold through the bulkhead opening after pushing it between the headlamp assembly and Radiator. Use a screwdriver to remove the nut securing the hood release handle to the left cowl trim panel before disconnecting the cable from the handle. Pull the cable completely through the cowl panel to extract the release handle from behind the sound insulation. Keep the mechanic's wire in place where you will install the new cable while removing it from the cable. The mechanic's wire should connect to the outside end of your new cable then assist the cable to pass beneath the sound insulation and through the cowl panel opening. Secure the cable onto the release handle then set the cable grommet into the cowl panel. Retain the release handle in the left side kick panel and tighten 7 n.m (62 lb in) using the nut. Guide the cable through its designated path between the headlamp housing panel and core support before setting it into the inner fender retainers and joining it to the Hood Latch assembly. Reinstallation includes the Hood Latch followed by the grille together with the left closeout/insulator panel and left front door sill plate.
