Q: How to replace the ABS Control Module on 2008 GMC Yukon?
A: The Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (J92) should only be replaced with the ignition in the OFF position as the first step. Support the vehicle, and next, take off the ABS module splash shield retainers and bolts, followed by taking off the splash shield. Start by cleaning the BPMV and any brake pipe fittings, then remove the EBCM electrical connector, the BPMV motor connector, and the BPMV hose quick connects, then screw caps onto the ports to keep brake fluid from leaking out. Remove the RR, LR, primary, RH, and LH brake pipe connectors, and cap each one to ensure no fluid leaks out. It's not required to take out the BPMV bracket bolts. rather, get to the 3 BPMV bracket bolts on the outboard side of the vehicle frame and loosen them, then slide the EBCM/BPMV and bracket assembly toward the front and take it off the frame. Remove the BPMV assembly along with the 2 bolts, and if you are putting in a new BPMV, first disconnect and discard the EBCM bolts before removing the EBCM from the BPMV. If you removed the EBCM, put it onto the BPMV and bolt it down with 4 new EBCM bolts, tightening in an X pattern to 3 N.m (27 lb in). Put the BPMV collars and insulators back on if you removed them, and then connect the BPMV to the bracket using the 2 BPMV bolts tightened to 9 N.m (80 lb in). Move the EBCM/BPMV and bracket assembly backwards and attach it to the vehicle frame, making sure the 3 BPMV bracket bolts are tightened to 22 N.m (16 lb ft). Ensure all the LH, RH, primary, LR, and RR brake pipe fittings are joined and tightened to 18 N.m (13 lb ft). Once the BPMV return and supply hose quick connects are secure, go ahead and connect the EBCM and BPMV motor electrical connectors. Lastly, put the ABS module splash shield back on, tighten the bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft), and secure the retainers, then bleed the BPMV if needed.
