2009 Cadillac STS Brake Booster Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Power Vacuum Brake Booster (RHD) on 2009 Cadillac STS?
A: Start Brake Booster replacement by taking out the right side insulator panel from the instrument panel. You need to separate the vacuum Brake Booster Pushrod retaining clip before taking the Pushrod off the brake pedal pivot. Uninstall the Pushrod bushing as well as its wave washer before handling the optional cross vehicle brace. Disconnect the level sensor electrical wire and remove the master cylinder nuts from their position without detaching the brake pipes while moving the master cylinder away with heavy mechanics wire. Detach both the vacuum Brake Booster checking valve and hose unit. Adjust the j-22805-b (Brake Booster Holder) parts by extending its mounting holes and slicing 6.36 mm off each inner border until the span reaches 80.00 mm near its center. Secure a j-22805-b Brake Booster holder on top of the vacuum Brake Booster and fasten it with the master cylinder nuts. Press the locking tab with a flat tool and turn the j-22805-b clockwise to free the vacuum Brake Booster from its bracket. When removing the booster do not forget to release the Pushrod retaining clip first. Gently move the vacuum booster forward and next you can reach and detach the Pushrod retaining clip before taking the booster out. After installing the vacuum Brake Booster Pushrod into the dust boot if needed you must slide the booster home and join the Pushrod while slotting the retaining clip. Put the booster on the bracket and turn the j-22805-b in clockwise direction until the lock tab locks into the cowl flange. Take off the j-22805-b tool before discarding the master cylinder nuts. Connect the vacuum Brake Booster check valve and hose set before attaching the master cylinder to the booster with new nuts that should reach 25 nm (18 lb ft) torque. Put back the master cylinder fluid sensor wiring connection before putting on the cross vehicle brace (if installed) and adding the Pushrod parts. Insert the Pushrod through the brake pedal pivot and hold it into place by a holding clip. Reinsert the right side instrument panel insulator panel after calibrating the brake pedal position sensor.
