2008 Cadillac STS Brake Booster Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Power Vacuum Brake Booster (LHD) on 2008 Cadillac STS?
A: You need to remove the left side instrument panel insulator panel to reach the power vacuum Brake Booster (LHD). Put the Steering Column assembly in a lower position without switching connections to the intermediate shaft and prop it up. Detach the brake pedal position sensor electrical plug and remove the pushrod retaining clip. After that disconnect the pushrod from the pedal pivot. Take out both pushrod bushing and wave washer parts. Also detach the cross vehicle brace for equipped installations. Pull off the master cylinder fluid level sensor's electrical connector and unscrew the cylinder's nuts. Put the master cylinder to the side while leaving the brake lines connected and take out the windshield wiper module. Install the j 22805-b into the vacuum Brake Booster and attach it with master cylinder nuts before connecting the vacuum Brake Booster check valve hose assembly. Push down the cowl locking tab with a flat tool then rotate the j 22805-b configuration with vacuum brake Brake Booster counterclockwise until the bracket releases. Push the vacuum booster gently toward you until you see the pushrod retaining clip. Push the foam filter down and then take off the Brake Booster pushrod from its mount. Take the vacuum Brake Booster out of the vehicle and take the pushrod through the dust boot if needed from the inside. Position the vacuum Brake Booster in the vehicle first and then feed the pushrod through the dust boot if it was detached during removal. Press the foam filter to open the retaining clip space and join the booster pushrod to the booster before engaging the clip again. Turn the vacuum Brake Booster with j 22805-b assembly to the bracket with clockwise rotation until the locking tab joins the cowl flange. Throw away the j 22805-b unit after removing it from the Brake Booster. Place the vacuum Brake Booster components in position then attach the master cylinder to the booster which must be fastened with new master cylinder nuts at 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Connect the sensor that checks master cylinder fluid level then plug in the windshield wiper system component before placing the cross vehicle brace (if vehicle has this module). Put on the pushrod wave washer and bushing to the vacuum Brake Booster then join the pushrod to the brake pedal pivot before putting on the retaining clip. Link the brake pedal position sensor electrical connection then put the Steering Column assembly in place and set up the brake pedal position sensor. Lastly, attach the left side instrument panel insulator panel.
