2008 Cadillac STS Brake Booster Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Power Vacuum Brake Booster (RHD) on 2008 Cadillac STS?
A: You can start power vacuum Brake Booster replacement by taking out the right side instrument panel insulator panel. Lower the Steering Column down carefully keeping it connected to the intermediate shaft and support the column. You need to disconnect the brake pedal position sensor electric connector as the next step before you remove the vacuum brake boosters pushrod retaining clip and disconnect the pushrod from the brake pedal pivot. Pull out the pushrod bushing and wave washer unit after taking away the cross vehicle brace when necessary. Disengage the master cylinder fluid level sensor wire while removing its retaining nuts. Place the master cylinder to the side while keeping brake pipes connected. Disconnect the vacuum Brake Booster check valve and its attached hose assembly. Fit the j 22805-b holder to the Brake Booster and connect it by tightening the master cylinder nuts. Apply a flat tool to push the locking tab towards the hood, turn the j 22805-b and Brake Booster to loosen the unit from its bracket as you keep the booster attached to the clip. Move the vacuum booster slowly forward to spot the retaining clip and use the foam filter to reach it to disconnect the pushrod from the booster. Take out all components of the vacuum Brake Booster and if needed disconnect the pushrod from its dust boot position within the vehicle. You must install the booster system intact at its original position without separating its inner elements or the mounting bracket. Test the booster and plate locking flanges before using new replacement pieces. First push the vacuum Brake Booster pushrod into the dust boot then put the vacuum Brake Booster in its proper place on the vehicle. Press the foam filter to enter the retaining spot while linking the pushrod to the booster then place the retaining clip back in its space. Use the j 22805-b tool to turn the vacuum Brake Booster clockwise into its mounting bracket until the locking hook catches the cowl flange. Unscrew the j 22805-b to detach it from the master cylinder while removing the nuts and replacing these parts with the vacuum Brake Booster components. Install the master cylinder onto the vacuum Brake Booster and tighten its new flange nut to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Plug the master cylinder fluid level sensor electrical cable while you put the vehicle brace crossbar on if you have it. Then place the pushrod wave washer and bushing before you add the pushrod. Join the pushrod to brake pedal pivot where you also put the retaining clip on before plugging the brake pedal position sensor connector back in. Put on the Steering Column parts and train the brake pedal system after you put back the right side instrument panel insulator panel.
