How to Replace Rear Brake Calipers on 2008 Cadillac STS?

To replace the rear brake caliper (JE5, JL9), check the amount of fluid in the brake master cylinder reservoir before beginning the job; if it exceeds the midway between maximum-full to minimum allowable, siphon out to this midway level. Raise and support the vehicle after disconnecting all the wires, and then remove the tire and wheel assembly. With a c-clamp of suitable size, open the c-clamp and position it over the brake caliper in such a way as to compress the caliper piston in order to move it past the brake rotor before release of the clamp. Unscrew the brake hose from the caliper by removing the bolt, and throw away the two copper brake hose gaskets, then plug the ends to avoid losing fluid. Remove the brake caliper pin bolts and pull the brake caliper off from the bracket. Check on the slide boots on the caliper for damage and replace if needed. Mount the new brake caliper to the bracket while making sure that the threads of the caliper pin bolts and bracket holes are clean. Apply thread locker gm p/n 12345493 (Can P/N 10953488) to two-thirds of the length of lower caliper bracket bolt and allow it to cure for approximately ten minutes. Once you have lubricated the brake caliper pin bolts with high-temperature silicone brake lubricant as mentioned, follow up and tighten the bolts to 60 n.m (44 lb ft). Disconnect the plugs from brake caliper and hose and fit new copper brake hose gaskets and mount the brake hose and bolt, torquing to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). First bleed the hydraulic brakes, then compress the brake pedal with the engine not running to about 2/3 travel and then letting it go again, do this until you have a firm pedal. Lastly, replace the tire and wheel assembly and drop the vehicle.
