    Q:
How to replace the front brake calipers (JE5) on Cadillac STS? Posted by Customer
    A:
Check the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid before you replace the front brake caliper (JE5). The technician should drain fluid until it reaches the midpoint between the max-full and minimum limits. Check that the vehicle rests on supports before removing the tire wheel assembly. Press a large c-clamp on the brake caliper to push the piston into the bore so the caliper can pass the brake rotor. Then release the clamp. Follow these steps to detach the brake hose from the caliper: first remove the brake hose to caliper bolt and discard the two copper brake hose gaskets while plugging all openings to stop fluid loss. First disconnect the brake caliper from its bracket by removing the bracket pin bolts. Place the caliper guide pin boots in their correct position before installing the caliper. To reuse the caliper pin bolts first clean threads and holes with denatured alcohol before applying thread locker gm p/n 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) to 2/3 of the lower caliper bracket bolt threaded length. Wait 10 minutes for curing. High temperature silicone brake lubricant should be applied to brake caliper pin bolts before installation where torques need to be applied to 34 n.m (25 lb ft). Connect the brake hose to the caliper after installing new copper hose gaskets and tighten the bolt up to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Perform hydraulic brake bleeding through brake pedal application to 2/3 of its range then slow release until pedal firmness returns. Repeat this procedure until pedal achieves sufficient firmness. Lease install the tire and wheel assembly before the vehicle reaches the ground level.
